Anything missing for a Disc Brake Conversion?

Post by Fang » Wed Mar 08, 2006 5:49 pm

I have been doing a bit of a deal with a fellow from the US on a heap of parts - including some Disc Brakes.

As you can see in the picture, I have calipers/lines, discs, backing plates and accompanying bolts. Is there anything else I need?

Is it best to send the discs in for a machine as well?

that'll do it. see if you can get more of the lines as they are quite different.

when you talk to this fellow again see if he can find me a XT6 setup.
as I cannnot find one in NZ.

Hmm how much more brake line? Can some generic lines be used?

XT6 hubs? Are they the 5 stud ones?

missed a point in the top post. send the calipers in for a rebuild as well. that way everyting is fresh. rotors could use a clean up but I would find min thinkness and measure( calipers) them first.

Thanks Chris

Even though these brakes were cheaper than local to get from the States even AFTER postage - I can only imagine what FOUR discs would weigh/cost 8O

true, customs are fussy people. give them a car to clean and they charge $400 to do so. ( then I pull the car apart and STILL find half of Christchurch in it!!)

Good advice, Leon. I am very mindful of that. I made sure of this when the fellow sent these - that and he cleaned out as much brake fluid as possible. A friend of mine from Canada sent me a wooden ornament once - had to part with $40 to customs to get irradiated :?
