If you find an early Impreza dual range box they are 1.5 reduction. You can also fit the EA series low range reduction in to an EJ box. (Do a search around here, there has been a few threads on the subject).
You can build a 3.9, 4.1 or even 4.44 Ej box with 1.592 low reduction. It is up to you as to how much stuffing around you want to do to get the low ratio. To do either the 41 or 44 diff ratio you do need to machine the crown wheel. Simple enough to do, just know that it has to be done.
Looking for EJ D\R

I was unaware of the 1.5 reduction in early impreza duel range boxs. It would be nice to find one, are they very rare around those parts? I need to be more specific with my search.(Then it would just be a matter of getting it shipped here).Outback bloke wrote:If you find an early Impreza dual range box they are 1.5 reduction.

Yeah thats right, but its hard to find Impreza boxes, as there is more Liberty boxes out there, Liberty boxes low gearing are 1.19:1 ratio - check out my signature - I've done the conversion and not looking back! - very happy with the low range, was using it this morning up on slipperly muddy hill and liberty just climbs without struggling! (whereabouts 1.19:1 would!).
