auto/manual 4.11 diff ring and pinion the same?

Post by El_Freddo » Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:57 am

G'day all!

I've just been reading the 4.11 gearbox thread started by AP. It got me thinking - for those that know, are the 4.11 front diff/ring gear and pinion the same between the manual and auto boxes? I realise the pinion shafts will be a different length.

If not, what's different (shape, mounting of the pinion gear etc)?

Just curious

Cheers

yeah i can confirm that, its completely different because of the gearsets will not match between automatic and manuals - it has different shaft. The only thing might be the same is the front diff itself and the crown, but not the pinion shaft due gearset.

can you define "but not the pinion shaft due gearset"? I feel like alice down the rabbit hole - this just got me a little bit further down...

Story is that I want to know if the diff and pinion can be used in a cut and shut job in a manual EJ box? I can get an auto easier than I can get a foz 4.11 gearbox...

The crown is different too. It is on the opposite side of the box.

Yeah thats the biggest hurdle.

Raid the RS forums and get a shagged 4.11 box and use it.
