TACHO not working!!

Post by H-top » Sun May 31, 2009 4:51 pm

G'day all

I've got a vortex with an EA82 MPFI NA '85.

My tacho has stopped working, but i have not blown a fuse?
i run an aftermarket coil and have had it in for months and
i was driving today and it suddenly stopped, no warning,
no super high revving, no noise, just stopped!!??

any ideas?

Several things:

1) a dodgy connection on the back of the instrument cluster has caused the issue

2) the L series subarus (AFAIK the vortex too) have issues with the tacho working in the heat - this can be from the car sitting in the sun in the middle of winter to using the demister on full ball for too long. It will usually come good with a tap, a bump on the road or a bit of hard revving...

3) something's crawled into the instrument cluster and died in a position to stop the tacho working

Probabily not real useful stuff here from me - have you traced any wiring to check it out?

Cheers

My L series tacho has stopped from time to time, got stuck on 1000rpm but tends to work most times. Might be OK next time??

should be the yellow red wire from the negative side of the coil
well it is on the brumbys and lseries
- 92 brumby, ej22, MT5AWD, lseries low range, centre diff lock, glf5 dash, 5 stud conversion
lifted 3" front 2" rear all rolling round on 27" khumo Kl71's
more in progress ie:adaptronic ecu and sc14 supercharger
