Brumby EJ20: springs 'n dampers

Hi all,

Nearing completion on my MV/Brumby WRX project. An EJ20 from a Legacy Turbo has been fitted along with a VOS chip to give a bit of extra kick.

With 250bhp-ish I would like to upgrade the stock springs/dampers and torsion bars to reduce roll and firm up the ride. I'm not looking to lower the car, just to sharpen up responses.

The six-stud conversion has already been carried out - I've gone for a set of 16-inch Nissan Navara steel wheels with 205/45/R16 rubber.

Any advice on reasonable spring/damper combinations would be appreciated.

Just new struts and shocks can make a huge difference.

You may already have this covered, but with 250Hp, dont you think it would be an idea to upgrade the brakes first?

The most sensible option is to go 5 stud with the 'Crossbred kit', but if funds are limited, at least go with MY84 vented fronts and L series rear discs.

Thanks, not a lot of effort has gone into the brakes so far - I was working down from the suspension first.

The car's a '93 model and already has vented discs on the front (i've upgraded the pads) but still has the rear drums. Discs all round would be an improvement.

If you have the funds definitely consider a Crossbred kit. Would mean changing the wheels for something to suit Subaru 5stud though. But worth considering BEFORE you upgrade front suspension. This is because the Crossbred kit allows you (and requires) to use Impreza front struts and springs. Read up about the kit on their website anyways.
Note that the rear discs will make a difference but not really a whole lot, nearly all of your braking is taken care of by the front end.
Otherwise just a set of new MY struts and springs will be a great improvement by themselves.

Thanks for your advice, I'm interested in giving the crossbred kit a go - only problem is the relative rarity of some of the parts needed (L-Series & Legacy) to complete the job here in the UK.
