ej18 questions
ej18 questions
did this engine come from only the liberty or did it also come from the impreza? did they come with an awd box? and if not does anyone know if the ej22 awd box will bolt up?
for a long term project im thinking of taking the brumby off the road and fitting an ej18. it is the best engine choice for me because it is the same capacity as the ea81 so insurance wouldn't be so bad.
any help or thoughts would be great
cheers

Liberty N/A from 1989 to 1998 was EJ22 SOHC
Liberty with Turbo was EJ20 DOHC
Liberty N/A from 1998 onwards to today are either EJ20 DOHC/Turbo EJ20 DOHC
Liberty RX's from 1994 to today had EJ25 DOHC same with Outback (early Outback was SOHC later on was DOHC).
Impreza had EJ16 SOHC, EJ18 SOHC & EJ20 DOHC plus Turbo EJ20 DOHC.
Easier for you is to get EJ22 because there are plenty of them at the wreckers plus more power.
Cannot tell you the straight answer but I've seen a lot of people fitting EJ22 in EA81/EA82 series cars. AWD - I think you can, but the tail shaft will require mods because AWD box is shorter than FWD/4WD box.

Other way around dudeAlpineRaven wrote: Liberty RX's from 1994 to today had EJ25 DOHC same with Outback (early Outback was SOHC later on was DOHC).

As AP said, the EJ18 was only available in Australia under the Impreza's hood. Yes there were some AWD models. I beleive there were also MPFI variants, although the only ones I've looked at have been SPFI.

Will do, things are a little slow at the moment, just waiting on a few parts.simmo wrote:baron please keep us posted on your ej18 conversion.
From memory the EJ18 is about 75kw, step up from the 55kw EA81 but a bit of a step back from 90kw although a 4.11 or 4.44 box would compensate pretty well.
And yes being an EJ engine they do take an EJ box.

what mods would you guys recomend to get more power from the EJ18? keeping in mind i don't want to turbo. 100kw would be awesome
and also whats the ratio of the EJ22 gearbox?
also for the cv's i'm guessing you only need to change the inner cups to lib ones and evry thing else should still be in place?
cheers
