I've done the swap to Cheap Grief, 3 speed 4WD auto out, 5 sp d/r manual part time 4WD in.
Lucky for me [in one way] was that i could make the 3 speed auto speedo cable fit to the RHS of the box whereas it was in the LHS of the auto. LTurbo Thomas tells me that when he went from his AWD 4 speed auto in his L to manual 5 speed D/R part time 4WD he need to swap speedo cables.Thinking 4EAT is different to 3 sp auto somewhere
Dunno why but I HATE pulling L dashes apart for speedo cable swap.
Prior to the swap both gearboxes in their original cars gave good speedo readings.
Now with the mix and match efforts I have found speedo with manual box in is out by about 5 km at 60, shows 60, GPS says 65 and same difference for about 80. That's sort of OK to live with, but at showing 100kph my GPS unit can read 102,109, 112 116 !!
Did someone ask how many speed cameras I have been past in the last two days at the indicated speed?? I am now pooping self, trying to construct a letter to keep my money and licence...
Why the crazy readout at 100?
I think cable may be doing one too many soft bends to take up its extra length and that is causing a slower response at 100 .
