LSD For Brumby

Post by Brumble » Fri Mar 20, 2009 11:09 pm

I am considering an LSD option for the brumby. How hard to come by are the LSD's and how much could I expect to pay for one?

I'd recommend you find a LSD from a RX Leone but make sure your final ratios are the same or you'll have to change over the centers. As for the price, I'd hate to have a guess at what you'd pay in Darwin, never lone find one but I brought one recently for $100 (which I thought was a great bargain for Perth).

Arent we all. From what i know , the clutch pack ones are found in the rx leone sedan as RSR 555 stated or the vlsd type are in some wrx, liberty and forresters. If i am wrong , some one please put it straight. Or if ya got some big money, put some liberty or wrx running gear into the brumby and have some other big money left , ya can go Helical LSD differential.

Since you can find these so cheap, i can do with about 5 over here for that price, want to find some for me. lol

Yeah difficult to say how much to expect to pay for an old clutch-type RX one, they come up for sale pretty rarely now so its hard to make an average. They are worth abit because of rarity etc, but also worth less because they are pretty old these days.

VLSD is good to get from an early RS liberty because the stub axels are already correct, it will bolt straight in. They sell for around $400 from wreckers.

Cheers for that guys. $400 is probably a bit steep for me at this stage but I will do some shopping around anyway and maybe I'll stumble over a bargain.

Are the VLSD's a 3.7 or 3.9 ratio?

The japanese import ones from RS Legacy are 4.111, and I beleive the Aussie RS ones are a 3.54 (or something strange like that) - their gearboxes have a step down for the rear part. For VLSD you really have to change the centre into your existing open diff and use your own gears if matching up to an L series or MY gearbox.
In my case I'm using a 4.111 VLSD in the RX but I'm also using the matching 4.111 Legacy gearbox so no ratio change was required.

RS Liberty's VLSD can be either 3.545 or 4.11

You'll have to change the crown & pinion to suit..

Also you could find them from Forrester GTs..
Cheers
