Hydrolic lifters noisy
Hydrolic lifters noisy
Hi guys.
Had my L series for over 2 years now and just recently when I start the engine I get a loud ticking noise. I have been told this is an issue with the hydraulic lifters. Does anyone know what causes this and what is the best way to fix it.
Thanks

Yeah, this isn't really a problem, more so a coming of age for the EA82's
To help resolve this problem you can replace the seals on the oil pump, make sure you do the shaft seal too.
Other than that you either put up with it or do regular oil changes to try and clean them out over time...
Cheers

That'll be a bit costly if you're not doing it yourself, but if you have the money go for it - get him to replace the water pump at the same time and maybe the cambelts if you want as they're all in the same area/need the same things removed to get to them...someguy wrote:Might ask the mechanic to replace the seals aswel

My mate is my mechanic and does not charge me for the labour on any jobs. which is great.El_Freddo wrote:That'll be a bit costly if you're not doing it yourself, but if you have the money go for it - get him to replace the water pump at the same time and maybe the cambelts if you want as they're all in the same area/need the same things removed to get to them...

Mate, I had this problem, and it sounded real bad. I've had some success though and it seems to be running quite good at the moment. See here :-

i had the same trouble with my EA82.
i was told it was the oil releif valve and spring, and the parts were cheap from subaru aus.
but when it came to the actual replacement of parts, i had to replace the whole oil pump. this fixed it up instantly.
hope this helps
