Nice bodywork but looks out of balance - even worse than the US Baja's...
1989 Brumby - Shiny new red paint, stroked EJ20 phase 2 SOHC with Darton sleeves bored to EJ22, Wiseco high-compression pistons, Delta 2000 grind cams , EJ/XT6 5 stud with WRX 4/2 pots, 5-speed, 86 GTS seats and so much more.

Look closely at the metalwork in the tub area. I personally wouldn't like to find out how much bog is in that job. And cutting the back of the roof off and rear pillars, then zapping on a rear window section, being a "non structural" modification? Seems to me this "cert shop" he mentions in a reply to someone's question about certification is most likely just the local fish'n'chip shop...

Don't you mean a "fush and chup" shop?last celtic warrior wrote:Seems to me this "cert shop" he mentions in a reply to someone's question about certification is most likely just the local fish'n'chip shop...

I don't mind it, being a little partical to the brumby I reckon it'd look better as a two door with the longer driver's and passenger's door and more "ute space".
One thing that concerns me with the ute tub in this is that it has not had the side panel access areas sealed - a good spot for dust + water to enter equalling rust...
I would love to see subaru do another ute, maybe not as luxurious as their other models but a 2 door (and maybe) a 4 door ute would be the go..
Cheers
Bennie
Problem with Subau building a ute is it would have no load carrying abilities and wouldn't sell. Back in the day of the Brumby's no one cared about over loading. These days theres a $10000 or so fine for over loading and a 350kg limit is pretty stupid.

Weld one subi up-side down to another so if you roll it you haven't really got a problem!?Bumpty wrote:Front view is alright, the tub is horrid. Needs a longer (flat) tray or to be a 2 door.
So we've had the cut down forrie and the shortened L, what else will these crazy NZers do next (what ever it is, I look forward to it)
My first thoughts anyway.

I have no idea about holdens (and wish to keep it that way) but these are the figures I can find and they look like decent payloads for unibody cars. Maybe, just maybe, subaru could make a stronger heavier body for the ute and then put a larger motor in. Like run the EZ36 in a Forester ute?

There's a single cab version getting around Darwin. I didn't like it too much, as the cab looked too short, with little adjustment for the seats. It needed longer doors and a slightly longer cab to look the goods. But a great idea for Subaru - a new age Brumby????preno wrote:Eww. Could hardly fit a swag + esky in the back of that thing.
I reckon a single cab version would be a lot better

El Freddo , I think your referring to the showpony performance utes like the hsv maloo and fpv ones. Some of them are only around 350-450 kg's, i think the fords carry a bit more than the holdens but not much. Id love to throw a ladder in one and scratch the metallic duco or the armor all'd never been used before plactic tray liner

mmm... i would perhaps own one but that nz one is nothing like a new age brat. try taking that offroad, first rut and the tub would twist off the cab in a motion that resembles that of a rubic's cube.
