push or tow start autotrans??

Might have to try this in the work ute while a still have access to an auto (New Navara).

I'm sure that you could probably do this in a hire car, wouldn't try it in anything that I owned but. Although saying that I put a VY commondore into reverse whilst travelling at about 80km's per hour, the car still goes, but shut down pretty quickly

It's a feature fitted to some auto box's.
The likes of a Holden or ford wont have it, but some euro stuff has.
The 1965 Minimatic had it!

Thats what I thought, that's why they were classed as a clutch-auto.

The merc was a proper auto.. No weird stuff. Just a torque converter and 3 planetary gears. But it may of had some pump thing on the output shaft, that would explain how ti could get enough pressure to the torque converter to get enough friction through to the engine.

I thought jaguar of all people brought out the first fully automatic transmission, Also I managed to accidentally restart my old calais (trimatic) after it stalled just whacked it in drive then away she went but again the tranny would have been warm by that stage too!

can confirm one make/model that will not be push started - a 70s honda 2-door civic.

Didn't do any harm (it seems), nor did it start, but when we put in 'P' - that made some interesting, and terminal, noises.

Now RIP at Sims metal destined for china i guess

have a powerglide holden in the wind...we'll see what happens there.
