hey fellas, apologies for not having been online for awhile, work and what not. that and my cars been running beautifully

until now...it has developed a shudder whilst driving from about 80km/h and beyond. u can feel it through the steering wheel, but, it swaps between shaking the steering wheel, and shaking the entire car but not the steering wheel if ya get me. its also exaggerated under brakes. i just had my brakes machined so im a bit lost.

any ideas?

If you've gone offroad recently make sure there isnt any sand clumps stuck to the back of your rims. It will cause ur wheels to be unbalanced and does exactly what you're describing.

hmmm maybe my wheels r just massively unbalanced, theyre only 2 weeks old and havent seen anything but the mac. but i cant imagine they would b having been balanced only 2 weeks ago.

If it is shaking all hell out of your car then it is most likely a cv joint.

cv joints r new, suspension is all new

check all your bolts, especially through bushes are done up right. I had a rattle/shake/noise for ages that I couldn't find. In the end it was the bolt that holds the inside end of the control arm on was loose ( had about 1/2 a turn to go before it was off when I finally found it ).

mmm ive been over the car a couple of times and i havent noticed anything that would make such an outrageous shudder.

i just read this thread http://www.ausubaru.com.au/showthread.php?t=12384 the new wheels i got were desert rats with the different offset, could that put more pressure on the uni joints? i had a look at em a while ago, they were in ok condition i think but im thinking their true wear might be showing with the new wheels on the car??

didn't someone on here have an issue with rats being out of true? can you refit your old wheels and tyres to check?

yeh that was me, got them sent bak and some new ones bought in and they r great, took it for a run and they just needed a bit of balancing. threw my old wheels bak on just to be sure there were no other factors, there was the smallest shudder at around 120km/h +. threw the new ones back on and could notice the same thing but then it went away, but now its far worse. thats why i think it has to be something on my car itself as opposed to the wheels themselves, but other than the uni joints i just cant think of anything. the only things that have changed is ive gone from 13's to 14's and the offset is different. will inspect the uni joints tomorrow.

What about wheel bearings?
bigger wheels with more offset,if you have a bit of play there,it will make it worse with your new wheels

i doubt the wheels would be the cause. My money is on the tailshaft.

aaahaahahahah fwd = no tail shaft:P

try all the tie rod ends and ball joints and stuff as well....but i personally think its the wheels...maybe take them to get rebalanced...doesnt cost much at all

it does the same thing on my old 13s but its not as bad. cv joints arent even a month old, i hope its uni joints lol, havent renewed them yet

check if your rim weights are still on.
they could have fallen off causing an off balance

yeh weights r still on. rang around a few places today and they seem to think i might have bent or damaged hubs, which would explain y its worse under braking...so im getting em checked friday. c how we go.
