where'd my brakes go?
where'd my brakes go?
go to leave work tonight, go to brake and nothing.
couple of pumps and it comes back but by the next time i need to brake there gone again?????
i'm ripping the wheels off tomorrow to check, but thought alittle brainstorming on here might help or at least point me in the right direction.
somethings that may be related,
sometimes the brake studders and i can feel it kicking back through the pedal.
feels as if its coming from one wheel (rear d/side).
sometimes feels as if it hangs on for a second.
i had to pull the drums off with a puller when i did my 6 stud, this roughened up the pad a little (but it never studdered or anything straight after the mod).
any help would be nice

this happened to me. you have a leak somewhere in your brake system which is why it takes a couple of pumps to get thru to the brakes. mine was a popped wheel cylinder in the drum so check for leaks there. and the rest of the lines. the castle nut is the big castellated nut on in the middle of the hub holding the cv in.

if a front castle nut comes loose it moves the hub, wheel, disc, and outer cv around and the disc can push the pads back into the piston causing you to have to pump it back out to get the brakes working.
but if u say u have heard noises from the rear check the linings ontn he shoes and the drums arent 'oversized' and wheel cylinders arent leaking.

hahaha it clicked what nut you were talking about half way through today! i'm an idiot.
any ways pulled the rear hub only to find no pins, warped clips and pads bend to the shape of the letter "S"!!! even abit of damage to the wheel cylinder.
but no visable brake fluid leaks, fixed and re-assembled the brakes were better but far from any where near safe. they will not lock up from 40kmh.
i've felt up under the dash and cant find any brake fluid within the cab, or out side.
i shall try my front nuts now, and i should mention i don't think im losing any fluid.

today was a quick job because of work we only focussed really on that one rear hub but it had a new wheel cylinder put in there.
checked front nuts, there still thight with pins in place.
it couldn't be something stupid like worn front pads? i'll check tomorrow mainly because i like a car that go's hard........ but stopping is good as well.

ok today i checked up front all good. cheack the other rear drum and suprise suprise one pin missing with its clip all bent and one warped pad. so i had almost no rear brakes!!!
bent shoes, 1 out of the 4 pins remained and one of the wheel cylinders received a flogging from bent clips floating arount in the drum.
new shoes/cylinders/3pins+clips and one MacGyver pin (because i couldnt find pins on a sunday) and i have working brakes.
