Speed Sensor - may be related to speedo cable?

Post by stephendean » Thu Nov 13, 2008 8:08 pm

On my "L" series MPFI auto, the check light has come on. I have read the code and it indicates a problem with the speed sensor. does anyone know where this beast lives? And is it ok to drive while I collect money to pay for parts and/or repairs?

Does the speedo still work?

The speed signal is generated by a reed switch in the back of the instrument cluster.

Then it's most likely just a broken speedo cable, replace it and see if the code returns.

This is something I have been trying to learn about !

stephendean, a question for you. Did you notice any drivability issue before seeing ecu light come on on the dash? or have you driven it to pick up your parts and noticed any significanrt change ? Oh, has the speedo cable simply come away from the back of the speedo unit then? r come out somehow at the box?

I did find photoos and discussion in here about the L speed sensor being in the speedo unit itself of efi and other L series. Think i searched speed sensor
:)
