Apparently the EA81 pump has no problem with this setup.

Jordan.
There are two types of EA81 fuel pumps I believe. My early one thats mounted in the engine bay, I wouldnt think would be suitable because its fuel on demand that regulates by back pressure cut out. So if the surge tank is not closed (or regulated by eg a needle and seat as in a carby - original set up), it would run continuously (read noisey) it wouldnt be rated for continuous duty cycle.

The later model one thats '84 I think is located under near the tank might be suitable, or may suffer from the same prob. Someone else like Fred - Sub may be able to shed some light on that one.

I can't speak specifically for the EA81 pump, but I've been using a 'ticker' pump as a lift pump in my coupe for about 2 years now. I worried about the duty cycle when I first put it in, but to my amazement its never shown a sign of worry.

I have been using the under body subie pump to feed a surge tank, under the rear of the car, and used a supply line out of a another MY as the return from the engine to the surge tank. I restricted the return to the fuel tank a little, cos the pump was very loud when not 'loaded', its still not quiet though.

I thought that an MY with the strut mounted pump had no return line (mine didn't) and the under body pumps have a small return line.

Last weekend I towed a full bed car trailer with an MY tourer on it with a spare engine and varies extra bits in it, the trailer was unbraked and it was a little wet, you'd think i would have learnt from the last time I did it.

But the car pulled reasonably well, couldn't accelerate in 4th gear on the flat though, biggest prob was traction, many times i had to pull her in to 4wd to keep the front under control.

Setup is: EA81T to a 3.9 L box to 27" nankangs and the rear disks helped in the stopping department

However i don't want to make a habit out of towing that kind of load, and am going to try and borrow a 'cruiser to collect my next acquisition.
