Hello all, I have a neighbour with a 1984 4WD wagon that has been well looked after. He called in admiring my 1988 Touring Wagon. We swapped for a drive of each. He is mighty impressed with the braking efficiency of mine.
So, too the question, is will brake components such as the calipers and master/booster from a wreck L series 4WD fit straight onto his 1984 wagon without problems to get the affordable better braking. I have read that subybrumby? fitted complete L series hubs and calipers to his brumby wider track conversion. we were thinking just calipers fitment first. If anyone knows or have done this please do tell

I know the rear brakes will fit up - the advantage of L series rear brakes over the MY rear brakes (I found this out recently) is that the L's have self adjusting brake shoes - this keeps the pedal feel the same through out the brake shoe life without you needing to adjust it manually - as you need to with the MY.
As for the fronts I have not done much with them in regards to MY/L, but I would say at a Guess is that they will swap over, you'll need to take the L calipers and discs.
What your mate is probabily experiencing is a combination of an older braking system that needs a bit of maintenance and the rear brake shoes that need adjusting.
The best brake upgrade for the MY and L is the crossbred brake conversion - you can use any Liberty/Foz/WRX brake setup with this. Usually only used for performace conversions or the want of the later 5 stud pattern.

Nope the Caliper Anchor Brackets from an Lseries will not bolt onto MY hubs.
although unsure if only the actual caliper can slide out and into the MY's Anchor Braket.
id say that the 84 wagon just needs a bit of work done to its own braking system.
also self-adjusting brake shoes arent foolproof, there is alot of cars with them but they dont always keep them adjusted properly, and do require the manual adjust over time

I think the MY series came with much better brakes abit later on, maybe source some brake parts from a 1988 Brumby perhaps?
