EA82 gearbox roll pin help

Ok, so I got one roll pin out OK and the CV off one side of the gear box (piece of cake with the engine out)

The other roll pin seems to be made of super strong unobtanium and is wedged tight. I've belted it, drilled it, sworn at it in English, French, German and a special made up language I've got for really stubborn components. But even that didn't work.

Have I missed something?

do yourself a favour and go out and buy 2 tools...
6mm short pin punch
6mm long pin punch

use the short one to get those really stuck roll pins started and then use the long one to knock em through

with those you get a good purchase on the pin and just belt them with a big hammer

you can also use 6.5mm pin punch, even better chance of getting those stubborn ones through.

Sometimes people not in the know put the Cups in 180degress out, the pin will go in but not all the way through meaning that to remove the pin it must be punched out the opposite way to which it was incorrectly belted in. The catch is you have to guess which way it needs to be bashed out.

Maybe I've been lucky with this. The only pin that gave me severe grief was on the rear right CV - the CV cup seemed to have rusted around the pin making it very difficult to move it and when it did move the bloody thing decided to spread in the hollow stub axle... That was a fun day :(

That would appear to be the issue.

So the holes in the CV cups and the stub axles on the gearbox are not symmetrical?

Correct. One side is slightly countersunk if I remember correctly. It's only been a couple of years since I've had to do one.
