EJ20G bov...is it possible?

Post by Alex » Thu Sep 18, 2008 12:05 pm

hey all,

1. excuse my turbo noobness...im very green to them haha

so ive got a bov for my RS motor, but just wondering if its possible for it to work. Ive heard stories that you need an aftermaket ecu etc etc.

ive tried before and the motor hunts for revs when you depress the clutch. (it almost stalls) but then corrects itself back to normal idle.

so do i need a plumb back? or a semi plumb back bov? or am i doing something wrong?

Has anyone done this before?

thanks in advance

Legally you should have plumb back, at least we are supposed to over here. What did you get ?

you will get away with a 50/50 setup, gfb have some good units for great prices.
to put it short, early model rs / wrx setups require the 'plumback' as they are reliant of the airflow back into the intake on a factory ecu/tune

There is nothing wrong with the factory recirc valve, use it.

But if you want to go aftermarket get a plumb back type and adjust it really soft, (not like the vast majority of twerps with BOV's that have the spring wound up so tight so it only vents under high boost)

Having a soft BOV allows compressed air to bypass anytime you are not on boost. This way, the turbo will be spinning nice and quick the moment you plant your foot.

ok fellas thanks for the help.

my main reason for getting a BOV is that the car is wanky wagon...she needs a bov haha.

i'll look into the GFB range and see what suits my needs the best.

spankyou!

You could put your AFM after the turbo, like between the IC and the TB, then you could do what ever you wanted with your vented air

thats an interesting idea. would be kind of hard to fit it into the waic system tho as it all fits so snugly from factory
