Yeah i did not expect my threads to hold out more than a few removals but yeah you might be right... engine has been out a LOT of times with no sign of wear to the threads.

what is the problem with Alloy? people think its soft so threads wont hold....

BUT what is the engine made out of :???:
there is plenty of threads tapped into the block and the heads.

maybe different aluminum?

Yeah maybe its just a myth, quite right matatak, head bolts have some hefty torque put into them!

Matatak has used an alternate method of securing the top of the motor to the gearbox which doesn't require threads to be tapped, I have a basic idea of what was done here but Matt you should post up some of the details.

If you drill your pilot holes the right size and then run the tap through square then there is no reason why the threads in the plate won't last the life of the engine/car.

I too am interested on how Matatak did his plate?

I am also interested on how others have sunk the heads of the bolts that hold the plate to the motor into the plate? I used some extremely expensive counter bore bits to do it (no not counter sink, counter bore - takes the whole head of a hex head bolt/screw into the plate.)

Offset studs it the way Matt did his? Interesting, I wouldn't have thought that to be a particulary suitable fastener to use in this application. I assume though that it works well?

Anyone thinking 'WTF?", an offset stud is a piece of threaded rod with a kink in it kind of like a lightning bolt shape, you thread one end into the engine, the plate slips over the other end and is secured with a nut. It allows things to be bolted together without being aligned.
