EA82 starter motor

Post by Busdriver » Tue Sep 02, 2008 7:38 pm

Just wondering if the starter on a EA82 is normally reduction drive or not. My 91 L carby sounds a lot like a reduction starter and my old mans 87 L sportswagen does not. Are there differences between auto and manual maybe? These two are both 5 speeds. If so, are they interchangeable? Just want to make the old mans spin a bit quicker, maybe start a bit easier.

Lots of Ks,A/C, MP3 sometimes(if its not dark) singing steering wheel cover which I listen too when its dark.

Ive heard you can use all starters from MY to liberty, apparently they are all interchangeable. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
It's also a good idea to make sure your earths are all sound as well as the rest of the elec. system as this might have an effect.

L series auto had a reduction drive but the mannual did not. Liberty Auto ones are different to manual ones, the noses of them are different.

Thanks for clearing that up SWK, that means that someone probly put an auto one on mine then. And thanks too Ineedabeer, all connections are now checked and mine still sounds a bit like an old Valiant compared to the old mans. Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Dunno, does any one else know? It sounds faster on the starter motor but that might not mean anything, never really thought about it like that, thanks Matatak.
