Kart Boy rear caliper adapters inbound .

Post by discopotato03 » Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:01 am

Hi all , having decided to run the CrossBred kit as intended I now have the MY03 four piston brakes to pick up and I have a set of Kart Boy rear caliper extension/adapters on the way from Tuspeed in Victoria .
What the adapters allow you to do is fit the 290 odd mm ventilated rear disc rotors and aluminium twin piston Sumitomo calipers from MY99+ WRXs .
What I liked about these American Kart Boy adapters is the Chrome Molly material CNC machined all over . I was not comfortable with some locally made stainless steel items and aluminium may not stand up in a compact adapter like these need to be .

A delightful little sting is that Nissan R32/33 and 300ZX Z32 are the same caliper though they have Nissan insted of Subaru cast on the outer side of them , upshot is that they are cheaper and more readily available than the Rex ones so all good for a parts tart like me ... Getting bastard file ready .

Tuspeed is well worth a look for all kinds of Subaru bits , the adapters will owe me $285 landed at my local PO .

Too good , cheers A .

I know and because that site wouldn't let me in in time I couldn't go that way .

Anyway an interesting link to Scoobymods and someone going about it though with deep pockets . Lurve those BBS wheels .

Kartboy rear caliper extension bracks and bolts have arrived , these are well made things and lightweight which is good for keeping unsprung weight down .

Will start another thread about compatibility of WRX braided lines on a CrossBred converted L series with 290mm rotors and twin piston rear calipers .

Cheers A .

Sorry, didn't know you where the same guy as on Rexnet....

What do you mean about the guy on Scoobymods doing it with deep pockets?
As in using all new parts?
I used new everything, except the calipers which I got sand blasted (and then repainted, re-stickered, clear coated etc) and re-built.

Basically yes . Best way to do it but almost certainly the most expensive .
I get the feeling that Americans don't get raped to the same degree buying genuine parts as we do , larger market and greater volume I expect .

I doubt very much I'll buy Subaru branded Sumitomo rear calipers because Sumotomo also make them for Nissan and they are virtually always cheaper for the same item , 150-200 much better than the 3-400 Subaru people want for them 2nd hand . Who cares if it has Nissan cast into the outer side rather than Subaru , a bit of time with a bastard file fixes that .

Cheers A .

Or a grinder.

Someone on OzLiberty used the brackets and put the Nissan calipers on.
