Crossbred brake kit issues (driveshafts)

Post by SUBIIE » Fri Aug 29, 2008 10:13 am

Hi team,

i have gone through the tedious process of upgrading my brakes with the crossbred kit, and am almost finished.

the only thing that is holding me back is the driveshaft complication.

I am still using the original ea81 gearbox and according to Jeff, i need to use a liberty outer, with a brumby inner, but use a MY sedan shaft.

can anyone confirm or deny whether this works or not and why it works?

i assume it is becasue the sedan was front wheel drive therefore it had a differnet hub arrangement that had a smaller spline fitting through the hub therefore that particular shaft fits both liberty outers and brumby inners.

cheers team

According to the Crossbred website it's the 22 spline MY driveshaft you need, your car likely had different ones originally.

I have been told by jeff he was trying to sort out someone to make some up from scratch. So you just order them and they bolt straight in.
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

ok the sedan shafts jeff talks about are a 22 spline(MY),the lib outer shaft should be able to be bought from jeff,(ask him) the inner cup your looking for to suit your g/box would be avaliable from most driveshaft places, make sure you tell them your after inner cups to suit the spline (?) off the g/box and to fit the spline on the shaft(22)-ball and race

im running a lib auto box 25 spline with 23 spline shafts, the cups i needed were cups off a EFI LSeries thats just the inner cups ,the outer was all MY

hope ive been helpful

well as you can imagine for someone who is relatively new to the game of modifying driveshafts it all seems a bit confusing.

The shafts i got made up had liberty outers (22 spline), liberty shaft (despite me asking for MYsedan shafts), and brumby inners (25 spline). These cost me $88 each, yes that 's right $88 each.

I rang them back and they couldnt supply the MY sedan shafts, i rang around and have hopefully located them (at least they confirmed on the phone for me) a pair of MY sedan driveshafts for $35 each.

So hopefully this works.

cheers
