MY Brumby I think?

hello all

I have what I think is an MY brumby. It's a 1982 model with single square headlights and a dual range gearbox.
can anyone confirm this?

My plan is to do a ground up restoration and convert it to plug-in electric so I am looking for some bits and pieces.

can you buy after market front guards or can anyone point me to a wrecker in the Hunter/Central Coast area that has a few MY brumby's or wagons in the yard ?

I would also like some suggestions on what all wheel drive gearbox to use? It will need to handle upwards of 120kw at the input shaft and be easy to fit to the brumby.

Hey mate, sounds like you've got a brumby there for sure. Talk to Thalass about an EV brumby - he's working out bits and pieces for his conversion, but is still yet to get a brumby...

Don't know about aftermarket guards, you'll just have to find a set at the wreckers.

An EJ AWD gearbox sounds like the go...

May as well just buy a Prius, would cost about the same as a 120kw electric conversion....

dont know if they do guards but i know sunspare was getting brand new tailgates from somewhere....not gen but reproductions....mite do other brumby stuff by now?

Sounds awesome man, you may consider a rwd only manual gearbox from a different car as the AWD ones do sap abit of power and add weight via all the extra driveline components. Perhaps even consider a direct drive setup, I hear there are a few EV cars setup with the motor connected directly to the rear diff?

Then you'd be driving a prius... yuck!

Woo! Now there's two of us! I'm going for an AC direct drive setup. Two small motors, one at the rear diff and one at a second diff mounted where the gearbox used to be, similar to the Electric Imp Impreza racing car. Eventually I'll try and get a diesel genset of some kind which would make it a diesel-electric series hybrid. (Unlike the prius, which is a parallel hybrid POS)

Then I can take it off road for more than a few km, and kick Hatchie's arse! mwahahaha!

Not sure if I'll need some kind of low-range for climbing. Induction motors have all their power down low, so it might not be necessary.

then I'd be driving a crappy hatch. The reason I'm doing this is because I enjoy restoring different looking cars. my last ground up restore was a Datsun 240Z and I think the brumby also looks cool !

In 5 years time there is going to be thousands of prius's out there but not too many electric brumby's.

AndrewT, I was considering the AWD box after reading in the thread on converting a brumby to RWD that the handling goes to pot.

My plan is a warp9 series DC motor a Zilla Z1K-HV with 144 Volts of LiPo batteries. Not as flashy as a AC setup I know but I want to build something that will surprise the mates and wont bankrupt me.

Nice setup.

With the exception of the motor controller, a three phase setup shouldn't be much more expensive than DC - the batteries are cheaper per-unit, you just need twice as many!

The motor(s) can be second hand industrial units, which are built in their thousands.

If you need info, the people at the AEVA forums will be happy to help, as well as DIY EV.

Isn't the warp-9 the motor they use in the Killacycle?
