Converting an EJ22 to manual

Hey guys, im new to the whole subaru thing, so ive decide to join the forum. Ive recently accquired a 1995 subaru liberty EJ22 AUTO AWD, and im finding it rather slugish and boring, i was wondering wats involved in converting it to manual and how much its gonna cost me in parts. labour is free as my dad is a mechanic and im not to bad myself. cheers

Pedal box, clutch pedal, clutch cable / hydraulic clutch setup.

You'll have to short the inhibitor switch too, but as far as removing / bypassing TCU wiring I'm not 100% sure what the go is.

Going to manual is not a problem with an auto. The wiring won't be an issue.

ok so are these parts readily available or are they hard to find??? would it be an expensive operation. thanks for all urs help. is there anyone near herveb bay in QLD that could give me a hand lol

The expensive parts will be the gearbox, clutch, tailshaft, gearbox cross member and the clutch pedal and cable. The swap could be done in a day if you know what your doing. You will also need the gear lever and console top.

Okay, I'll bite...

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to trade-in your auto model for a manual version? Or have you got vast amounts of time and dollars invested in this car already?

Rear diff might need replacing depending on the final drive ratio of the manual box.
Try to find a manual wreck,you'll have everything and more.

I thought similar but when it comes to cars you never really know.

On the other hand keep it auto and do a turbo conversion.

Yeah dont forget the rear diff as well...
Fly wheel needs to be replaced.. If you have donor car then you're lucky.
ECM isnt a problem (because the computer still thinks you still have automatic) but what about the wirings from the gearbox?
