My new project/family car

Post by Gannon » Mon Mar 23, 2015 9:08 am

Like I didnt have enough already, but this came along cheap because of the big end knock, so I sold the Outback, bought replacement motor and got to work

The new motor is sitting in the engine bay, but I still have to bolt it all in and reconnect all the pipes, wires and accessories.

Car is a 2004 Liberty GT 5sp auto
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp
Past rides: 92 L series turbo converted wagon, 83 Leone GL Sedan, 2004 Liberty GT Sedan & 2001 Outback

Cos its twin scroll? I actually haven't driven at more than idle speed and all I could hear was the rattle of the big end.
Maybe I could un-even the twin scroll headers to bring back the boxer rumble.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Forum Fiend v1.3.3.

I guess that's one way to keep the kids inline - crack some skulls with the right foot when needed

Request more pics once out of the shed please!

Cheers

There are a few things that need fixing up... I kinda bought a lemon but at least it was cheap
There are bubbles in the header tank even though the car doesnt seem to use any water
The heater core has a leak and it currently bypassed
There is a dent/big painless rust patch on the bottom of the passenger side front fender
Bonnet sits about 6mm higher than than the side fenders
Leather is coming undone on the steering wheel
Both central locking actuators on the passenger side dont work
Broken clip that holds the bumper on under the headlight
Clock/info display comes and goes

Planned mods...
Fit a digital temperature probe to the engine to keep a close eye on temps until I sort the bubble issue
Fix everything above, plus...
Make the indicator flasher module louder
Install a central locking beeper/piezo
Variable sub volume mod

Ive always preferred wagons for the practicality, but this sedan came along and I couldnt say no

Remove it and resolder any dry joints on the circuit board. Resistors 1, 2, 3, and 4 are the main culprits

Seems like just a little list - more annoying than anything. The body damage would be the worst to deal with in my book.

Seems like a good project though!

And wagon's rule. But utes are good, it just takes a little bit to get used to only having two seats and weather proofing the stuff in the rear/leaving it out on the street at night with gear left in the rear if a driveway space isn't available (only when travelling thank goodness!)

I bet you're looking forward to having it on the road!

Cheers

Heater core is the biggest pain that im not looking forward to pulling the dash apart to fix it.
Readjusted the bonnet catch today so thats one job down

Its on the road, I've been driving it since last Sunday afternoon
