f*&ked clutch or just clutch cable

I was going to say you could start your own thread but I'll reply here with what I think it is.. Normally shuttering comes from hotspots (shinny spots from lots of heat) on your flywheel or loose springs in your friction disc and your clicking sounds like one of your retaining clips on your release bearing may have come off.. either way it sounds like you're going to need to inspect the clutch system

Finally got around to looking deeper into the issue and I can see what the problem is. I just want to confirm that the clutch box you guys were referring to is the little C shaped thing immediately behind the clutch pedal assembly. Is that right? And are they usually welded into place? From what I can see from looking into it, the tack holding the box to the spar behind it has cracked and it is flexing forward every time the clutch pedal is depressed.. It looks to me like all I need to do is retack that into position and it should be sweet.. Does this sound right to you guys? Bitch of a spot to weld though. any hints?

thats correct you need to unbolt the box take it out of the car pull it apart strengthen it and then rebuild it and put it back in

at least thats one job I will be doing this weekend on my brumby:)

I wouldn't try to weld it in the car as you could cook everything under the dash

Thanks for the pics, Toonga, that has cleared things up immensely, thats exactly what has failed on mine. One question though, people have been mentioning welding on some flat bar to strengthen it. Where would I weld this on?

you would need to pull all of the pedals off weld plates on the internal sides of the box where the cable holds into and on the opposite side

hi guys, thanks again for all your help, I have managed to pull the offending item out of the car, not an easy job, and now just need to get it fixed. I've attached some photos to show the faults so you guys can give me your opinions.

yep the last one i saw like that i threw in the bin (it was mine) I would concider getting another pedal box but if you can't then you are in for a welding good time and it looks as if someone has welded it up before as those welds are way bigger than the ones on mine ( i just went and looked at it in the shed)

bugger.. no hope of a resurrection you dont think? Need to atleast get it semi mobile soonish as I'm moving soon and its currently just parked on the street. you think a quick weld, a little bash and a bit o flat bar would hold it in place for a bit?

yep it would hold for a while but it would be better to replace it with one that wasn't split (and strengthen it before it went in)

yeah fair enough, I definitely want to replace it, but I need to have it mobile for the move, just to get it to the new place atleast. Thanks again for the help guys, you've been indispensable. Hopefully I'll have th little beast going again by mid week.
