Model Codes

Post by SUBYDAZZ » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:50 am

I sometimes see these model codes thrown around to describe different Suby models eg: GC8 Impreza; BE Liberty etc.

How do I find out what mine are, and is it as simple as looking at the VIN or is it somehow more complex than that?

Look at your engine plate thing.
Small plate of aluminum.
Should have all the codes you need on that.
Located on passenger side near strut tower?
Cheers

Nope, only thing that would even be close is a 7 digit code, can you be more specific? This is excluding the trim code.

Anyone, beause clearly a *GC8* just means any old 2L Impreza, but I don't get the impression that's what people are referring to...

All Australian VIN plates have a 17 digit number and will start like this...

J = Japan (indicating what country the car was manufactured).
F = Fuji Heavy Industries (indicating the manufacture of the vehicle).
1 or 2 = Factory Production Line (indication for factory what standards to meet).
B = Liberty (or Legacy around the rest of the world) or G = Impreza or S = Forester.
F = Gen 1 Wagon or C = Sedan (Gen 1 Series 1 & 2), G = Gen 2 Wagon or D = Gen 2 Sedan, H = Gen 3 Wagon or E = Gen 3 Sedan.

The rest of the codes relate to engine type followed by transmission type then other stuff like grade or class, trim and so on...

The best way to check out that your car it what it should be is to google the first 11 digits only, more than most times it will come up with the answer your looking for ;)
