You can use the standard crossmember, you may need to file the engine mount holes a little to allow the EJ bolts to slot in. You will need to stick witht the MY steering rack as the EJ ones are a different size/length.

If it's a turbo motor you will need to cut a concave hole out of the standard crossmember to clear the turbo up pipe. Otherwise you could try to source a very rare EA81turbo crossmember.

Imprezza steering rack will actually fit.

but there is mods needed to do it and it is in no way a 'bolt in' job.

the Rack ends are going to be to long to use so either source new shorter ones or cut and reweld shorter. (MY ones wont work)
the steering extension between S.wheel and Pinion on the rack needs to be around another inch longer.
the hole for the pinion to go through in the cross member needs to be enlarged.

the mounts off the Imp. rack needs to be used and the holes on them slotted inwards.
use the original bushing for the passenger side mount and you can squeeze the Imp. bush around the drivers side mount on the rack.

a little bit of rebending ont he lines on the rack itself may be required also.

it takes time, money, file, welding, and etc to do but is doable.

That's way harder - unless you are a very skilled welder/fabricator don't even think about it.
