G'day again, wondering what other L Wagon owners prefer in regards to rear brake set ups..currently pricing shoes, bearings, seals and lower swing arm suspension items for the wagon and after some research here and on Subaclub, I'm starting to believe the rear disc conversion might be an option for me. I'm only running an ea82, but do lots of long distance runs and occasionally get to tow the tinny to the local boat ramp (boat & trailer gvm approx 360kg) I have combed the archives for info already, would appreciate any feedback offered as the resident warden here has no sympathy for my love of Subies and is even now smoothing the gouges in her rolling pin.
Hope to make it to the next club meet, just gotta get the stitches outta my skull....hahaha!;)
Drums Vs Discs
Naturally the discs are better.
They have more braking power (altho it's not a huuge difference) - that's why they put them on the turbo models.
Also if you do alot of offroading there are less components to get all caked up with mud.
If you can find a set of disc brake rear hubs definitely install them. Although they are getting abit rare these days.

The discs themselves are available to buy new, its the hubs which are the rare part. You have to get them from a Vortex or RX Turbo.
Be very careful to get some from a 4x4 model.
The 2wd ones cannot work. (unless you plan on converting your car to 2wd!)
I don't rekon it's really worth it unless you come across some for a bargain, the braking power isn't a huge increase but it is noticable.
Remember almost all of your braking is done by the front brakes anyway.
Adam in your case I'd highly recommend saving up abit and opting for a Crossbred Performance brake conversion kit. Then you can fit Liberty or WRX brakes and have a massive braking power increase. It also means you upgrade to 5stud wheels and much stronger front struts.
