My alternator has somehow stopped working, the auto electrician guy said the rectifier was gone. Making the output go strange.
Subaru want to charge $1100 for a new one, does anyone know if i can get mine repaired/ rebuilt. Also mine seems to be a different physical size and different plugs to a WRX or STI one so im not sure if they will work.
Thanks

My '02 Outback had the exact same troubles and the same fix (under warranty). Just switch it over for a second hand job from any other model that has the same type. As 4MUFF suggests, it'll be the same in any Liberty or Outback using the 2.5 motor - that's my guess, an educated guess, but I'd give it a try to see if they're the same.
'91 Sportswagon - 3" lifted, 14" speedys, 27" Nankangs + lots of small details improved. Wouldn't mind some extra grunt from an EJ.
The alternator that was in my B4 was a fair bit bigger than any of the replacements i could find. I am now running the smaller one and it seems okay. I can turn everything one (lights,AC,stereo, wind windows up and down) and volts only drop to 12.8. I think the one on there is about 25% bigger (physically). I have no idea about its actuall current capacity though.
