4 Plug MPFI to Turbo Conversions, Hands up!

Post by Gannon » Mon Jun 11, 2007 2:45 pm

I have recently converted my Wagon to turbo using the MPFI wiring loom.
Currently i can only get the engine to run with the MPFI ECU, i also have a Turbo ECU that i got with the engine but i cant get it to start.

Who else has done this conversion using the 4 PLug/Hotwire AFM/1987.5-1994 wiring system?

There are no codes, only showing code 3, which means Aust Turbo Auto.

Help please cos i really wanna run the turbo ecu.

Sorry cant help you with your prob, my was already converted.
Basic checks to wiring and power to dissy, injectors etc would help.

I just had a thought , autos would have had an inhibitor switch so that they can't be started in gear . Did you look into that one because its a common trap with auto computer convers to all kinds of cars . My 87 workshop manual shows this as pin 4 at the ecu , ie (Inhibitor switch AT) and (Neutral switch MT) . Also pin 30 on the diagram shows Identification AT / MT mode .

Trying hard guys , need 4 plug ECU part numbers off the box so everyone including me can tell which is which .

Cheers Adrian .

Had to do this with my car when I changed it from auto to manual. I had to make the computer think it is in neutral all the time so i can start the car etc..
But my car (4-speed auto turbo) also has a whole separate computer under the passenger seat just for the auto box.

See it runs with just the EFi computer, but not with the turbo one.

Yes the engine cranks, but wont fire, (havent checked if it is fuel or spark)
I remidied the codes i was getting, knock sensor and WGDS

All it says now is code 3, which means Aust Turbo Auto

I will try the auto inhibitor thing

DP03, is your FSM for 3 plug or 4?

Is it in PDF form or is it on paper. If i could, would i be able to copy a few pages, do you have a scanner? PM me.

Numbers are as follows.... for my Australian Turbo Auto ECU
10
22611 AA280
A11-000 R04 7320

Go to the local subie dealer, they have a parts book with all the ECU numbers in it, i went there looking for the rally version 160HP ecu.

Suparoo its a genuine factory workshop manual and it unfortunately only covers the 4 plug hotwire type . I have a couple of images saved from I think here of the schematic and EFI wiring for the 3 plug Australian workshop manual . I'd REALLY like a copy of the flapper EFI section from the genuine Australian Subaru manual .

BTW my manuals EFI section is virtually the same as the American PDF one only it shows our local cars as not having the purge control solenoid valve and the A/T Inhibit Switch/neutral switch section of the interior loom is slightly different .

Also ATM I have been going through the PDF manuals section on single point FI because they used a 3 plug computer , CAS type dizzy (similar to our 4 plug dizzy) and a 4 pin/plug TPS . Suspect that 4 pin TPS may be same as Vortex spider TPS and possibly the throttlebody as well . Manufacturers love to reuse as much as they can in various configurations because its cheaper in the long run . Time will tell .

If BYB is reading this , do you remember selling someone in NSW A spider turbo computer and opened up tagged loom ?

Cheers adrian .

The nuetral switch auto thing is actually in the igniton part of the loom.I've got the 4eat to work in L wired into my loom.Doesn't switch the computer on and off but the ign switch part.Even ej ecu from a auto will run a manual ej and they r a little more advanced than a L.
