Aftermarket tach on elec dist carb

Hi, trying to install an aftermarket (homebuilt) tach on a carby '88 EA82 - I'm assuming that's the electronic distributor.

Which wire should I be grabbing for the signal ? Yellow or black ? Seems like the circuit runs dist-yellow-coil-black-ground but I'm not sure.

The tacho should run from the coil negative, usually this is the yellow wire on the coil but check the symbols marked on the coil to be sure.

I already have a tch in my car...

But i am curious of what your homemade tach looks like and what kind is it, digital, Analog, Bar-graph?

Bar graph. Based on a **** Smith / Jaycar voltage meter kit and a frequency to voltage converter IC.

Realisitically, it's not working out any cheaper than their most basic tach, but I'm plannign to run a few things off the same gauge.
