EA82T Over heating

hey guys my EA82T has developed the habbit of overheating. Initially when i bought the car it had a blocked heater core which i have since cleaned and flushed.....as was the whole cooling system....no coolant leaks have been noticed...and the radiator is in good condition... cruising very normally with minimal boost the car runs fine...as soon as u push a little harder it warms up..but is really bad when sitting on 100km/h down the freeway the temp gauge works its way up towards the top of the dial... i have checked everything that i can think of. looking for any other ideas people might have. cheers dave

Have you checked the thermostat?

the thermostat is brand new.... i even tried driving it without one at all... still got too hot dave

does it all really feel like it is overheating when you pull the bonnet or is the gauge dodgy maybe ?

the gauge is accurate..as i got an aftermarket one on there as well...on oh yeh...she gets hot when u open the bonnet.....at 1 stage driving down the freeway got to the orange and yeh...definetly very very hot dave

before you write it off, how old is the engine 15,20yrs?
If its still got original water pump, thats the problem...seen a 15yr old water
pump ? its almost useless.
That, and oil pump are maintainence items....no reason why these engines can't do 300,000km+
Also need a decent radiator for the ea82t too.

this engine aint gettin written off just yet...i love it.....just need to sort this out....im gonna try putting in a diffrent radiator and a new water pump b 4 anything else is decided.. dave

sounds like a water pump to me. i had similar problems, replaced the water pump, and problem solved..

check the coolant overflow bottle isn't filling up[to the top] as the temp rises.had similar thing happen got everything tested at a rad shop.ended up being a seperated head gasket.

Problem solved........was not water pump, or head gasket but a very thin layer of slime over the inside of the radiator which was undetected at first inspection by the radiator shop...so they flushed it and acid cleaned it and now she runs really cool.....sweet!!

only problem now is i need a new radiator before too long as the fins started falling out during the clean...oh oww!!!....anybody know of a good radiator joint in perth?? i was recomended a place by andrewT which i went to today...but looking for any other reccomendations as well..

Good bloke there... helped me out with my cooling stuff and made my custom radiators for my conversion... he also helped me track down the best core to use and he let me go through his box of radiator hoses to get one to suit my car... gave them to me for free too.

Also let me out the back to see what was going down... not many places are happy to do that anymore. Very friendly people.

Your radiator got metal or plastic tanks atm?
Apparently they can't do shit with the plastic ones and they will need to be changed to metal ones... if thats the case then maybe your better off finding a second hand radiator with metal tanks to get modified and a beaf cake core... Mines a tripple core.

its got metal tanks.......the guys andrewt reccomended got a chance to prove their worth today...said they would do a double core etc etc...but i will pop in to this crowd down in rockingham to get another opinion....
