What Ignition Coil do i use??

Post by Xtreme_RX » Fri Aug 04, 2006 3:58 pm

Ok guys I am in need of a new coil for my EA82T.
What type do I fit GT40R, GT40?
Or can I use a transformer ie. GT40RT?
I was thinking of using the GT40RT but Bosch says it’s only for point style ignitions not electronic like the EA82T uses.

Thanks.

I'm using a GT40RT on my EA82 with an electronic dizzy. I was using it before that on my EA81 points dizzy. Haven't had any ignition problems with the EA82 to date.

You will need a GT40 with an R, these are for use with a ballast resistor, which your car should have. So its down to GT40R or GT40RT.

However reading the testimonies of the MSD Blaster 2 coil from several members of this forum convinces me this is the better option. If I ever build another EA powered car (unlikely) I'll be fitting one of these.

I read he says he got a ea82t, so there shouldn't be a ballast resistor at all.
Ballast R is only required on mechanical points type distributor.
OEM coil is really good tho, you sure its toast?
Anyway, the MSD blaster is really good :p, GT40 coils are really very average coils........

Used an Accel SuperCoil for years on both my L and MY and loved it.
