Coolant Every were HELP!

Post by leebag » Thu Jul 06, 2006 10:48 pm

On my way home from work this evening i saw some steam coming out of my bonnet. When I got home 2 min later coolant is pissing everywere. i think it is coming from a hose or something like that near the air filter. if anyone can help or has had this problem before help me? Contacting steve from rising sun first thing in the morning to get it fixed but don't have a clue what i am looking at. thanks Everyone. Ausubaru is the best place i think to get some info so HELP me pzl. i have an aus spec rx very standard ea82t. gotta love that chequer interior. I must add the engine loss most of its power no turbo when throttle was applied and the engine was stutering. I just hope its not a big job.

Most likely that prick of a little rubber hose that sits in under the manifold, just in behind the thermostat housing area.

It is only a small hose and easy enought to change but is an absolute prick to get to, another pipe thats been known to blow on the RX is the water feed pipe that runs directly under the turbo, once again, easy enough to change but a bastard to get at, also another thing to check is that your inlet manifold is tight as it may have come loose and be losing water from there. There is just so many Possibilities. Let us know what you find.
Cheers

Sounde like it the one under the manifold or the one under the turbo, either is a prick to do but once done you wont have any issues for a long time.

Went to see Steve from rising sun this morning. He has to replace the hose under the manifold. He says that he has to remove the manifold to replace the hose. He is also replacing a couple of other hoses. And also Steve put his "death machine" over the radiator and says there is may be a small leak in the head gasket. Steve will be putting some sealant in the radiator to try and stop the Head gasket leaking any more. fingers crossed this works. the death machine is just a little electronic gadget. i hate it because it means it's a big job ussally.

Generally with an EA82T the head gaskets will leak for some time then they let go in fantastic style. If he hasnt prompted you yet and he has the manifold off get him to replace the hose from the water pump to the steel hose on the block( they head to the heater)

Chemiweld is the best thing I've found to keep an engine together for as long as possible.
Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry

just keep driving it ...
carefull with the CHEMIWELD..there are reports once you use it and the engine finally dies..it definitely is a boat anchor.
The hose under the manifold, you can block it with 2 bolts..all that hose is for is to warm the manifold, so useful for cold weather, but still drivable without.
