EA82T or mpfi sensors - one too many ??

Post by steptoe » Mon Jun 19, 2006 7:45 pm

I think I have one too many sensors in my EA82T

OK the knock sensor appears to be screwed into block, top side, RHS and towards the rear and wires lead to dizzy - so makes sense

* There is a two wire sensor in the top of the thermostat housing black plastic housing that fits on top

* There is another sensor with fancy square brown platic plug with retainer spring clip on the water transfer casting that is sort of part of the inlet manifold

Normal looking temp gauge sensor screwed in at bottom front of alloy housing for thermostat

What exactly are the two I have marked with a * ?

clues anyone ?

thanks

The first item is the Aux Air Switch, has a heater coil to slowly close it after a cold start to eventually close. Must be connected.

The other item, I am not sure by your description, what side of engine?
'03 Forester X, stock standard for now.

'89 EA82T Touring Wagon, 5-speed D/R, 14" alloy wheels, bullbar. (Past ride)

The second item is the coolant temperature sensor that the ECU uses.

Thanks, auxillary air switch - must be smarter than than the ecu sensor. It is located screwed into the water transfer passage that is essentially another major part of the inlet manifold. It runs along the back of the manifold , left to right. The brown plastic plug sensor is on driver side rear close to the extra PCV pipe efi turbo motors have

The other sensor is the water temp sensor (for ECU)
