Looking for one of you dwindling few with EA82 carbed vehicle with the dizzy with clips, rather than screw on dizzy cap (they are mpfi).

Finer detail gets down to it being one of the Denso dizzies with what looks like a module each side inside (looks like a plastic cover that says "do not remove"

What I need is a birds eye photo of the cap off rotor position, with rotor pointing towards #1 lead terminal and your flywheel either on TDC or a certain timing point - say 10 BTDC

Why I need it ?

My EA82M won't start after reassembly and install in my Brumby

Got spark, maybe not at correct time and place

Got fuel

Got compression all cold test #1 175, #2,3&4 are 190

Got oil pressure up too, with all that comp testing :)

I am sure I used auto drive plate bolted on back of motor when it was out to get #1 on TDC or 10 dbTDC and dumped dizzy in so it was rotor pointing towards #1s pole in cap, and dizy about half way between the adjuster hold down clamp bolts.

My sure fire method for early mpfi units I have shared in the forum does not work - different dizzy. It was all to do with a feeler gauge lined up just before the staor and thingo lined up.

These Densos have similar guts but smaller, deeper down inside and hard to see.

These have just two wires yellow to coil neg, and black to coil pos. If there was a way to test between those two wires at the crucial point of rotor rotation that would be helpul too !

I'd do pics but imageshack has changed, not talking too well to my PC - at the moment only way I know how to get pics in.

Anyway, pull rotor button off and there is a small, square, machine cut below on the reluctor (looks like a four pointed star sits on shaft) , stator is fixed to the body of dizzy and is integral with electronic unit inside, under plastic 'covers' , the cut lines up with flat face used to locate rotor button.

did not look under cap did I ?? :oops:

you see, on TDC or timing mark of say 10 DBTDC, the rotor sits at #3 position coz, somewhere along the line I mixed up the leads between #1 and #3 - even labeled them with my colour coded cable tie system - then I installed dizzy. Come along later to instal dizzy, even later to install engine.

Better go off to work. play later, rejig leads and confuse self later, or do it right and pull dizzy and reset :)

Is this fixed Jonno? or do you still need help? I have a stocko that I can look at.

I know this might sound stupid and sorry for asking but have you got the firing order correct? and have you tried swapping around the HT leads on the cap?

Oh, sorry, it is sorted, it was firing order and not the usual error of confusuion, just lead got swapped in tracing from one end t'other :( , and way retarded timing - surprised it ran when it did. Thanks Paul
