con rods EA82 in EA81 ??

Post by steptoe » Sun Sep 29, 2013 7:22 am

Just wondering if anyyone knows if the EA82 con rods are interchangeable with EA81 ? Wondering if they are same size, same thing bearing sizes etc.......I know some suggest to use EA82 pistons of some sort in EA81. Just thinking at this stage ....EA82 turbo slugs and rods in EA81 block.......EA82 turbo and bits ....

No idea... why don't you just bite the bullet and get a loom chopped up for an EJ22 or 25 single cam and throw that in your brumby... Im sure in the long run it would cost less :)

I'd have to start a different generation of parts collection - the only thing I have towards that project is the Fiori dizzy ! Only just slammed the shed to door to escape parts fall out - no more room. That is after i disposed of an EJ16!

I did find an EA82T exhaust that needs work at the turbo flange end and got thinking ....I already have a turbo scallop...bolt this to an EA81 non turbo and get a custom pipe made up just from the RHS head , see how it goes and sounds, bigger diameter and that turbo exhaust order arrangement ??. Would get in the way of the turbo slugged EA81 idea but would not ned engineers cert :D

I'm sure I could find a set of EA82 con-rods for you compare with an EA81 unit - then do what you want with them.

Let me know as I'll have to pick them up from my pero's joint then post them to you...

Cheers

Oh, I was pickin' collective brains on info - get nowhere but other positive comments. My current feeling is who needs an EJ with the EA81 I have got :p . I have also tossed a few EA82's and kept some :) so will have them to salvage bits and that is where I was sorta thinking- EA82T pistons and con rods in an EA81 that might just get a hair dryer. This is before I even get to try out my mongrel EA82 with turbo heads and cams, carb compression Nov 86
The Gregories suggest the bearings at the big end are the same in the early ones in the book :)
Thanks for the offer anyway "Scott"
