Hey Forum,
Been reading into a few different cars of late as i have been wanting to replace my current car (a rather troublesome Camry).
I have been reading into the Subaru Impreza and have found a couple of tidy examples of the 1996 RX (AWD) model that are close enough and (most importantly for many my age) cheap enough for me to snag quite happily.
My only real issue is that being a NSW resident and on a Provisional license, there isn't a great deal i will be able to do in terms of modification and personalization.
Any tips or tricks that i should be aware of when it comes to checking out these cars in the yards and modifications (where to start and what to start with etc.)?
The reason i like the 96 RX is because its got the looks of the 22B WRX that ive grown to love over the years.
Any and all advice would be a great help. (regardless of how trivial or detailed)

Hi and Welcome to AUSubaru Skaquaad,
Sorry mate but I had to laugh.. I own a 22B don't see the RX Impreza in it
But the 96 model (or classic shape) is the best looking IMO. I think if you're buying from a dealer/yard then you won't have to worry too much, as long as you ask about it's warranty period (make sure it's on paper too) as they aren't allowed to sell them with "mods" on them.
The best thing is to have it checked by 3rd party group.. not sure who does it over there but NRMA comes to mind? This report will let you know if there is any issues with the car before you commit to buying.
As for "personalizing" then I'd look for a stock/untouched one and then just put things like tinted windows and mags (IMO that's all the RX needs) and make sure you run it passed your insurance company first.
Let us know what you buy and if it's a Subaru.. then you must post pics or you'll get banned
just kidding but we love pics
Cheers,
Paul

You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.
