FS: MY slanted console to suit DIN stereo

Post by dfoyl » Thu Jan 03, 2013 8:24 pm

Item............................... Used but complete (brackets, ashtray, all mounting screws) MY series (including second gen Brumby) slanted stereo console.

Description...................... Rare as the proverbial, I have seen maybe 1/2 a dozen of these in the past several years. Only found in base model MY's, these have the capacity to (a) fit a standard DIN stereo, and (b) are slanted so you can insent/eject a CD while in 1st/3rd/5th, which can't be done with a standard console. Colour is tan, which can be easily painted using interior spray paint to match the more common grey (the grey slanted console's are almost impossible to find as very few MY's from 1981-84 had gray interiors).

Condition........................... Very good - general wear but no cigarette burns, deep scratches, or holes drilled as they are often found.

Location ..........................Melbourne, but will post anywhere in the world.
Price................................$25 + shipping (at cost).

Contact ............................ Reply post ONLY...no PM's please. First in best dressed!

Not that I can have it but would you mind taking a picture of what this is?
It seems pretty rare from what you were saying. I think I know what it looks like.

Is there only 1 kind of slanted console? Cos my old wagon has a slanty slot where the old tape deck sits...didn't know they were rare. Mine has been sufficiently butchered though (not by me)

Certainly I'd admit they are becoming harder to find but calling them 'rare' might be pushing it a bit, they are still around.

Although, having one not cut up to fit single DIN stereo.. that would be rare

For $25 + postage = bargain

Considering I have paid $20 for normal Brumby console years ago - your price is certainly a 'club price ' :)

+1 for seeing a pic !

Silverbullet, you could well have a slanted console as factory. The easiest way to differentiate (apart from the deck angle) is the Brumby's have a pull-out cigarette tray and the slanted console has a flip-up door for the tray. I've never seen a Brumby with a slanted console ex-factory.

I am starting to think the slanted console might have been for an optional (maybe FM capable?) radio...I have previously only found them on early MY's (1981, 82) but the one posted came from a late run (84). So my thoughts on them being fitted to base models might be backwards...

Yep that's the one, exactly the same as mine. I used the ash tray to keep my coins in, and the broken fuel filler door key :o And the earliest radio I remember we had in there was an FM radio with cassette player, fitted a few years after car purchase with 2 speaker stereo. I won't be using mine though when my car is finished, I like the brumby console better since it will better fit what I want to do with it ;-)
