Under the bonnet, stamped on the firewall between the compliance plate and the spare tyre.

Is that the only one ? I thought they had to be stamped on a chassis rail as well ?

It's not a big 4wd with a separable chassis. Even then I don't think they do numbers on the actual chassis these days, it's all about the body.

Cheers

Like everyone has mentioned, it's on the body because it's a monocoque design, it needs to be stamped to the main body section. It is also stamped into the compliance plates and must be matching for rego.

Torana has it on the chassis and not on the body.........
And you don't even need any tags to get it registered as long as the chassis number has been rego'd before..............

How do I know this - because my new Torana has no tags but Licencing said it can still be rego'd :)

LX Torana does not a monocoque body

The reason you don't need plates is when these were driven off the Ark, they didn't have polution regs to "comply" with :p

Oh.. so the front rails are NOT removable from the main body?

Sorry, I was under the impression that a 'monocoque' (meaning one shell) meant that there was only one frame to the vehicle and not multible parts???

Did what? Drive off the Ark :p:p:p hahaha

Only polution stuff on my SS Hatchback was a hose from the oil cap to the air cleaner housing.

Nah the frame is not removeable - your thinking of the HQ.

Theres more than that - sealed carby screws so you can't adjust the idle etc etc. Yours probably had most of it removed anyway.

And the only car around when Noah was driving would have been a Mk 1 Brumby hahahahahahahaha

You could be right there.. I know there has been many bottles of bourbon since I had my SS.

More than likely.. it wasn't very stock

I do believe the Torana is older than the Gen1 Brumby ;)

#$@# me!! What's the plan with this one - you going to repair all of that? Nasty stuff rust, I hate the stuff - HATE IT!

Yeah the LC/LJ toranas are monoque as well, no removable chassis from front to rear. I would have classified the HQ as the same due to the body having the front end mounted on the body without chassis rails under the car, I'm sure these things are the same as the HK's in that department, if not I'm crossing over from the HK/T/G's that do this.

Maybe I should look up it's meaning...

Yeah its going to be fixed up - rust is easy fixed - just takes time and patience and a lot of welding wire..............
Hatchbacks are hard to find in any condition and are worth a fortune. A guy on the torana forum just sold a bare repaired shell (just a base SL) in primer for $15,000 !!
Plan is to either run completely standard Torana with a fuel injected 304 or just use the body and put Toyota Supra/LS400/Celsior 1UZ V8 and complete running gear under it. Leaning towards the toyota ;)
