Hi all new here, sorry if this is the wrong area i know how annoyed people can get.(I'm a member of aulro)just need some advice on a 99 outback.looking to sell my land rover and just buy a small wagon for about 5-6 grand.found a few good looking ones with good service history's just a question on the headgasket failures.are they all definite failures and what roughly am I looking at $$ wise.im not to afraid of bills owning a land rover for the past years.and also once they are replaced are they done or can it happen again.also if anyone knows any mechanics on the northern beaches.thanks again hope to hear.and sorry if there's to many questions!!

a 99 is a gen3 with the updated ej25. Headgasket failure is pretty uncommon and only happens if it hasnt been looked after properly or high kms etc.

the earlier quad cam ej25s are the ones to look out for, they generally let go at about 100k, so alot of them have already been fixed.

As Alex has mentioned, early quadcam EJ25 had head gasket issues. Some late sohc EJ25 have suffered the same fate but not as common. Early EJ25 was upto 99, so just make sure it's all in good nick or had the gaskets done.
