Fraser Island this weekend - any tips?

Post by vincentvega » Fri Apr 21, 2006 12:10 pm

Doing a bit of a last minute trip to fraser this weekend. Anyone been up there recently? I havnt been on the island for about 8 years, I imagine things have changed a bit.

I am planning on cruising up the beach from tewantin, then getting the barge from inskip. Should be a good run.

Watch out for backpackers sleeping on the sides of sand dunes!

A mate was at DI on the weekend just gone and he told me that you have to drive through water even at low tide to get around the rocks. So I suggest going inland through Freshwater.

My boss was at Fraser about 3 weeks ago. He said the bottom of the island was not real flash at all and ended up coming home via the Dilli village road.

thanks for that brett. I think i might give DI a miss then, i was hoping to avoid the inland tracks.

I think we will head straight up to gympie then out to inskip. should save me a heap of time and i dont want to be driving fraser on an incoming tide...
