Fitting an Air-Conditioner to a 1989 Brumby
Fitting an Air-Conditioner to a 1989 Brumby
Hi Guys,
I am a new member so be gentle with me for a while. I have just purchased a 1989 Brumby Ute, it's stock standard and the body is in really good shape.
I have also picked up an Air-conditioner from a 1989 Leone. I now want to install the Air-con. Has this situation been addressed in a forum previously?
If so can someone direct me to it. If not, has anyone got any sugessestions or photographs that might give me a clue where everything goes.
Regards Buddyboy

Welcome to the forum and the usual "plug and play" of subarus.
And congratulations on the purchase of a brumby, you'll love it!
Now for the bad news - the AC system from the L series (boxy subaru that looks like an '80s magna) is not a direct drop in plug and play situation for the brumby. You might be able to get it to fit with quite a bit of work and some new piping. Under dash transfer radiator might be another kettle of fish though.
What you really need to find is an MY that looks like your brumby, these sedans, coupes and wagons were built up until 1984. Dual or single headlight models are compatible with your brumby.
What you need is:
AC pump and brakets
Crank pulley
AC pipes and AC condensor radiator (the one out the front of the cooling radiator)
Under dash transfer radiator (forgotten it's proper name)
All wiring - should be a separate loom. You'll also need the switch on the dash for the AC
The glove box has a different section in it to accommodate the transfer radiator too.
That should all fit in with some attention to where the parts go if you're the one who pulls it all out...
AC in the brumby is awesome, you'll be looking for a jumper in summer as you cruise around with the windows up. Tint your windows too!
Cheers
Bennie
Thanks guys for all the info. Should have stated that the Air Con came out of a Brumby, so I should not have too many troubles. The only thing missing is the glove box with the cut-out. I have just phoned the guy that I got it from to see if he has the glove box as well. I did'nt take it out so if anyone has got a few photos to share I would appreciate that. I don't know anyone with a similar model to mine to have a look, so any extra advice would be appreciated. I do realise that I need to take the dashboard out, but this is OK, cause I need to replace the dash as well. I have got the dash out of the same Brumby, so all should be OK there. Once again thanks, and will let you know how it all goes. Have to reregister the vehicle in Qld from NSW over the next couple of days, so that will be the first project.

PS I was told in the first place that the Air Con had come out of a Leone, sorry if this caused any problems.
