Brumby prices

Post by revmax » Sat Oct 22, 2011 8:47 pm

Have been keeping an eye on the prices of the Brumby of late.
There are a few on carsales.com.au that seem WAY over priced, although in good nick (well most) one real nice looking with a WRX donk was first listed at $10K then later at $20K, the red one with WRX donk listed @ $19K is just rediculius. I reckon oll mate seen the one listed at $19K and thought his was better (which it is) than the red one so bumped his price up to $20K BUT neither of them will sell cause they are WAY to expensive, I do see a trend in the higher priced Brumbys NOT selling. The ones listed on ebay at auction around the $2K mark selling easily, which seem in similar nick to the ones listed at the $5K mark. There was one localy here in Coffs for $6K in a yard and it was pretty dam tidy and only lasted two weeks but probably sold for less then $5K.
Some on gumtree seem reasonably priced but some are just plane way to over priced and are not selling.
To be honest i think people selling there Brumbys are expecting to get to much for them.
I rang a bloke about his Brumby which was listed at $5500 and the add read "price very negotiable" I asked him how negotiable his price was and he said "Ohh I wouldn't go below Five"
I reckon the people are just asking way to much for their Brumbys, maybe in another 20 years they will be worth a few bob, like 1950-1960 model combies are now.

Share your thoughts please.

$5,000 is around the average for a "good quality" brumby i think.
Mine was advertised at $5,000 got it cheaper!

Yeah shame on these people trying to get top dollar for an icon car, a 4 cylinder 4wheel drive utility.....

Sheesh , next thing ya know theyll want 40 Grand for XB Falcon coupes, and HQ Monaro's ..... ( Oh that's right ... They do already)

Yes I'm being sarcastic, but the reason they hold their value is because they are a sort after vehicle.

There are some very tidy ones coming out of the woodwork and being a long time fave, some will ask as much as they dare. The red one, Rigolis PHARLAP, has a history well known and may be expensive to maintain, but some good fun once past rego headaches.

Drive one and you see more. I have my 92 which owes me about six big monkeys, is my spare for and or when if disaster strikes my 84 model. Actually, got it registered the other day, red one comes off the road for some tinkering....won't part with either - that puts their price up again!!

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Revmax, was the first $20k one you were talking about that white one? that is a bit steep but it was pretty much a new car with a Brumby body. Even had all updated interior. And if in 20 years a Brumby is worth what a 50's kombi in good nick is worth now, I should take out a small loan to buy a few of them  A restored split screen is worth upwards of $50k

Also when I was looking for a parts wagon like mine I found the asking prices for those to be ludicrous. I guess people just want every dollar they can get out of them.

You are talking two topics here

1. Modified cars - does not matter if it a Holden, WRX or a Brumby. Highly modified cars cost a bomb, and their owners sometimes try and recoup the dollars spent at sale...usually without success.

2. Std Brumbies - is all about market forces. Name me a small ute, that drives like a car, is 4 cyl with dual range? Jumbuck doesn't even come close.

In both cases, the market will determine the value. Some cars just bottom out at differing levels. Try to buy a Datsun 1500 ute for under $4K for example. Good VW Superbugs pull $2K min all day long.

As for long term...will not be worth anything like a Kombi. Simply not the brand following. As a benchmark, the 360s are worth little.

Upside though - should you buy one, you'll less money over time.

Please take into consideration I am having a bit of a rant and not serious just for conversation.

Silverbullet. Yer that white one is AWSOME. what caught my attention is when it was first listed it was $10K, two days later it was $20K, I am guessing his price adjustment was based on the red one at $19K but the chances of the red one selling at $19K are like winning lotto.

The prices of the STD Brumbys Makes my $1500 Brumby look pretty dam cheap. I may have got a bargain and diden't even know it.

That white one? has it got a body kit? Or does it have carpet in the tray? Their are about 3 that are about that price. They have all been there for over a year now!!!

I was offered 20k for mine, original look with upgrades including p/s, seats, a/c, etc and stock engine. Full body respray in maple beige. I said no.

It has a twin carby manifold and heads now so not really sure what it's worth...
