L - O2 readings

Post by subanator » Sun Apr 16, 2006 1:40 am

I am trying to monitor my EA82T and see if its running rich/lean via the O2 sensor.

Being a single wire type, I am getting 0.4-0.5V normal running, and drops when backing off throttle, never 0.0V when cruising, and get 0.0V on boost.

Either it is rich or incorrect, as I would expect it to go high on boost.
I would rather verify this before I go and get another.

If I do get another, should I get one with a heater in it? I am not sure how that part of the circuit connects, as mine doesnt have it. An earlier post by Tim says they are more accurate when cold etc.

Does the cable screen go all the way to the exhaust too, as mine is only screened as far as the firewall?

Cheers,
Roger.

Well, 0.45V in closed loop mode is what you should expect to see, so that aspect sounds OK to me. How does the engine feel on boost? Are you sure it isn't leaning out?

There wouldn't be any problem with running the shield beyond the firewall - it's just there to reduce electrical noise pickup.

Thanks Craigus for the reply, no it doesnt seem lean under boost. I havent run the engine long enough except for short runs due to coolant leaks, no temp gauge, suspect fuel guage and power steering leaks.

Thats good to know, one less thing to chase now :D
The O2 screen, I looked at 2x MPFI cars today, a Magna and a Honda. They are single wire types also and screened only to the connector. :D
