Aftermarket headers for L series?
Aftermarket headers for L series?
Yes I've searched & read all relevant threads, found there is a Lukey replacement available...but apparently they dont make them anymore.
Know of any other manufacturers?
I got quoted $220 to make some from scratch, stock diameter coming off the engine into a collector & then plan to go 2" from there with no cat. Ideally would like to buy the whole system & install myself.

Not worth the effort. Find a replacement set from another L series and go from there.
The only thing you can do to make them more efficient is to make them equal length - you will lose the subi note and only have a little performance gain.
Best performance gain for cheap is an EJ20 or EJ22
A 2 inch cat back system should see a bit of gain, if not a "better subi" note at the very least.

Yeah, they are pretty much good extractor from stock. I swap mine with on my ej and did not notice a slight difference, note was a bit deeper but that's about it. Its more for show than anything else. use the money for something else? I replaced mine as it was free:p

Im only swapping mine because the flange is rusting through & held together with long bolts & washers. Pretty sure its the original exhaust too. Hate the stock heatsheilds & just wanted a nice note. Rather not buy another stock set because they are old too.
Had equal lengths on my old Forester with the twinscroll turbo, was a performance difference (aside from turbo obviously) so I know about all that, be nice to get a little more power but I know its not exactly a performance engine.
Would love to go the EJ route but moneys too tight for now & I can just adapt the EJ headers to the new exhaust when I get around to it.

Fair enough. It's your money in the end and we're only giving our advice. You won't do much better than the stock Y pipe for performance as the EA82 has siamese exhaust ports. Cheapest option is to keep replacing the Y pipes - the next would be have an exhaust shop copy the the originals.apg39 wrote:Im only swapping mine because the flange is rusting through & held together with long bolts & washers. Expensive way would be a complete custom exhaust. Probably best to talk to your exhaust shop and see what they reckon.

Ppl more experienced with L series in general have already invalidated your reasons with logic based on experience, but hey, do what you want
- there is no noticable performance gain
- you will need to have them custom made at an uneconomical cost
- You mentioned money is tight at the moment, so don't waste it
Just find some non-rusty stock ones and bung them on. You can most likely get some for 10 bucks or free, I've thrown perfectly good ones in the bin before.

I didnt asks for anyones opinion on it? Purely enquired if there were any aftermarket options out there since lukey doesnt make them anymore. Aftermarket doesnt mean super awesome performance mods, just an item that isnt Subaru in this case.
I dont want performance gain, would be nice but Im well aware this is not a performance engine. I'm not dumb.
Hardly difficult to custom make them & its something I can easily write off through work as service/repair to a work vehicle. Since I live where there is none at wreckers & other option is freighting down here then getting modified to what I want. I'd much rather support a local business & customer of mine & get them made exactly how I want straight off the bat. If there were aftermarket ones I would get him to buy & modify pending price versus custom set.
So glad the internet has given everyone an opinion, just a pity I dont give a shit.

You got your answer immediately and a bunch of helpful advice too, if this makes you angry for some reason then you don't get the internet
Hope you end up sorting it out somehow anyways.

people are just trying to help you out.
your mind was made up before you even asked the question so why bother?
in your specific case the advice given is the best. 99% of us have asked the same question, just trying to give you reasonable advice which will leave the smallest dent on your bank account and give you the best outcome.

Am I reading this correctly - you used an EJ factory Y pipe on your EA82?! How did this work, as in, did the EJ Y pipe come from an EJ that had a siamese exhaust port too?guyph_01 wrote:Yeah, they are pretty much good extractor from stock. If that's the case I thought all EJ's were individual ports... Interesting.

I think he means he put aftermarket headers on his EJ transplant.
I didn't ask opinions on what to do because I've already looked into it & know what path to take.
Thats correct, I did already make up my mind...thats why this thread was created to ask if anyone else made the headers now that Lukey doesn't.Alex wrote: your mind was made up before you even asked the question so why bother?
