New Foz issues?

Post by Busdriver » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:54 pm

It looks like we are going to buy a brand new car and I want to look at a new Foz.
This forum has been awesome while I have had the L series, and it appears that its problems are common knoweldge, e.g noisy lifters and small radiators. What I am wondering is if there is such knowledge around about the Foz? Any common problems that stand out as almost faults like the L series? I want a new, basic, 2.5 litre petrol manual Foz.Thanks for anything in advance.

Are you thinking of getting a brand new Forester, or a latest model, 2nd hand Forester?

Personally id get a 2nd hand one, because all cars loose a heap of value the moment they drive out of the dealership.

The SH (current model) Forester is a great car. It has an EJ25 that has been around for years, and has no current issues i have heard of. Heaps of room inside, handles great and looks quite smart.

One thing to note if you are getting a MY2011 model. Subaru have introduced a new 2.5L NA engine called the FB25.

It has chain driven cam shafts, an oil filter on top of the engine, has a belt driven water pump and is supposed to have a larger, broader torque band than the previous EJ25 thanks to an increased stroke.

I'll be interested to see how this engine goes
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp
Past rides: 92 L series turbo converted wagon, 83 Leone GL Sedan, 2004 Liberty GT Sedan & 2001 Outback

Hmm...thanks Gannon, its this sort of info I am looking for. I could go either way, it would be for 4 years on lease so it will be handed back then and 2nd hand is an option. I know that the value will drop off heaps as soon as it leaves the showroom, but a new car is something Ive never had before ...as for the new engine, didnt know that and now I want to test drive it and love the no timing belt idea! Does this mean that they will still be a non interference engine do you know?

New FB25 is definitely an interface engine because it is a DOHC with really flat combustion chambers. But really, an interference engine should not be a concern. If it has belts, just have them changed when they are supposed to.
