My gearbox had babies!!

Post by H-top » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:57 pm

Ok crew,

my new libbo and I were crusing down the street
and around a roundabout in second gear when I heard a bang! Clunk,
clunk, clunk!
I still have drive In second gear but it's so noisy so I
don't use it

So I dropped the fluid and the only debris I found was
these three pieces of metal, and none are broken or sheared,
they are all the same.

it's a JDM Legacy Turbo 4.111 ratio

cheers

Hmmm... They look like the little tab bits from the low range in my gearbox - so I'd be guessing that these are from one of your gearsets, I'm pretty sure they've got something to do with the syncros...

Sorry its not a lot of info, but they do look familiar to me! You might not have a completely dead gearbox (fingers crossed)

Cheers

It's hard to explain but they go under a round piece that the selector fork is connected to.
Your lucky you could still drive it i wouldn't drive the car or you will destroy the box, There is also a round spring that is floating around in there some where that holds the three pins in place.
The clunk was the pins hitting the teeth on the gears when they fell out
When mine fell out they landed in the wrong spot and bang no teeth on that gear anymore
Either get it fixed or replace the box:( sorry for the bad news.

I think your RS has 3.545 rear diff - that will need changing if needed.
