?? compression test EJ twin cam ??

Post by steptoe » Tue Jul 06, 2010 8:03 pm

I have seen EJ twin cam in an MY and paid attention to the minimal space between engine extreme and chassis rails. Never really looked at the space available in the WRX's. Now , a mate tells me he looked at a rex with suspect head gasket and gave up. Just how do you do a compression test of a WRX motor in its right body. Must be a bastard of a job just to swap out coils and plugs ?

That's an easy one - its called pulling the engine! While you're there you might as well look at the water pump/cam belt, clutch and anything else that's needed.

Another way that might be able to do it is to drop the engine crossmember a few inches to get at the plugs.

Ive seen this.. its a REAL pain in the arse specially these design of these DOHC engines...

Ive already thought of that task when I saw an EJ in a Brumby a while back, the easiest option I can think of is just same what Bennie just said - drop it down few inches...
Cheers

Or lift it. Then you just change plugs from access through the mud guard

Thought as much. It was for a used car merchant - wanting a favour. Turned up on the same day a Merc Vito Diesel did. The Diesel has its injectors stuck in tight and there is no room to use a puller. Engine out or drop it a foot or two. Both were sent away to find interested mechanic
